The Cornwall College ’80s reunion got off to a flying start on Friday night at the CC Link Up at AquaSol Theme Park on the Gloucestershire Hip Strip.
At least three different decades were represented, from the 1970s through to the 1990s and the session went on till the wee hours of the morning with more people dropping in all the time.
We saw friends and class mates we had not seen in two decades and some of the girls from Mt Alvernia and Montego Bay High and even Herbert Morrison.
CC Old boys flew in from as far as London, Grand Cayman, New York and Philadelphia, Florida and many drove from Kingston and other parts of the island to share in what was a great night of vibes and reminiscing about the good old days.
Terrence “Terbo’ Bowen had a great idea to start a register which will be kept through the entire weekend and will be published on the website that we hope will be up for a while.
Photos from each session will also be published for those who were not able to make it.
It would be impossible to recount the many stories that were traded, the jokes that were recalled and the teachers and times we spoke about.
How many boys there remembered our old English teacher ‘Granny G’ or a math teacher from the late 1970s we call ‘Barnabas’ Collins.
While most people looked the same, some of us had packed on some serious weight or some like myself have lost all or most of our hair.
Again we tried to get a head count which was all but impossible but a good estimate showed at least 250 persons and the bartenders and the food man did brisk business.
Saturday between the two World Cup games we hope to have our own CC World Cup on the ‘office field’ while the Health Fair to benefit the community is going on in the auditorium.
Maybe we will get to see if ‘Bugs’ President of the South Florida CC OBA Chapter still has it, or Gary Vassell, Alvin Wong or the many ‘ballers’ who turned up on Friday night.
Maybe we can stick Onell ‘Macafat’ McCarthy in one goal and leave him there to block shots with his added girth.
If Friday’s turn out is anything to go by, Saturday night’s 80 session at Pier 1 should be ‘corked’.
Hopefully enough of us will be able to make it to church at Hill View Baptist Sunday morning before ending the weekend with the Family Fun day at Tropical Beach later.
